Utt Patang : review

Utt Pataang is directed by Srikanth Velegaleti and produced by Aparna Joshi . This is a comedy starring Vinay Pathak, Mahie Gill , Saurabh Shukla. The Background music is by Sanjay Chowdhary. Utt Pataang is a high voltage comedy thriller involving these five characters and how their paths though varied from each other but get embroiled in a wild goose chase for the booty. Vinay Pathak in the double role plays the good and the bad guy at the same time.

The film is basically an account of happenings on one particular night. Ram (Vinay Pathak) is a 35-year-old from Mumbai who has just broken up with his girlfriend Sanjana (Mahie Gill). Nandu (Saurabh Shukla) is his private detective friend. While having dinner at a restaurant, Ram and Nandu meet Koyal (Mona Singh), who's heartbroken after being betrayed by her boyfriend. Nandu hooks up Ram with Koyal and sneaks away surreptitiously. While Ram and Koyal are having a good time, Sanjana visits Ram's house to pick her belongings. But she's flabbergasted to find her current boyfriend and gangster Lucky (Vinay, again) there. A series of events involving many phone calls, police, a huge sum of money and lots of chaos unfold post this.

Utt Pataang has an interesting and impressive narrative. Each character is introduced one by one and his or her involvement in the plot is explained. The story keeps getting into flashbacks, which play out into the present situation. What seems to be a regular love story at the outset turns out to be a mad comic thriller. The connect remains throughout, despite the difficult screenplay, which is commendable.

The style of narration which tells the story from each character’s point of view is ingenious. There are numerous twists which keep you engrossed. On the flipside, it drags a bit post the interval, only to come back strongly in the hilariously tumultuous climax.

  • Yeh Saali Zindagi Its a quirky love story in the guise of a thriller. Meanwhile, time is running out for Kuldeep (Arunoday Singh), the young gangster who is on his last job as his wife is threatening to walk out on him completely, and he begins to suspect she is leaving him to go into the arms of another man.
