Bhindi Baazaar Inc.(2011) : Movie review

Bhindi Baazaar Inc. is an upcoming Hindi thriller directed by Ankush Bhatt and produced by Karan Arora, starring Kay Kay Menon, Piyush Mishra, Prashant Narayanan, Deepti Naval,Shilpa Shukla, Pawan Malhotra. The film is set in the underbelly of Mumbai, between the infamous by-lanes where crime is prevalent as a way of life. The film was announced at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. The film is slated to release in April 2011.

The film revolves around gangs of Mumbai who have embraced pickpocketing as an art and a means of earning a livelihood. They use their intelligence as a canvas and their spontaneity as a brush to survive in this dangerous profession. ‘Bhindi Baazaar Inc.’ is the story of a pawn and his calculated moves to reach the other end of the chessboard. Revolving around vicious crime syndicates, the film starts with a game of chess being played between two characters; ‘Shroff’ and ‘Darzi’. It highlights the ambitious and planned moves of a pawn to reach the other end of the board. Their every move in the game correlates with life in the real world and how people are used or killed as the game progresses. The story is based on the quest of a small time pickpocket ‘Fateh’ and his ambitions to become a MAMU (local area don). The screenplay underlines the gritty politics, feared hierarchy, unspoken rules, authoritative commands, shrewd intelligence, crafty wit and cold blooded betrayals, within the business. The film was shot on various locations in and around Mumbai's densely populated Bhindi Bazaar area, and a 30-day final schedule began 15 April 2010.

The cast of the film is:
  • Kay Kay Menon as Shroff
  • Piyush Mishra as Pandey
  • Prashant Narayanan as Fateh
  • Deepti Naval as Mamu's wife - Bano
  • Pawan Malhotra as Mamu
  • Shilpa Shukla as Fateh's girlfriend - Kanjari
  • Vedita Pratap Singh as Shabana
  • Caterina Lopez as Special Appearance
  • Gautam Sharma as Darzi
  • Shweta Verma as Simran

Mars Needs Moms (2011) : Movie review pics images 2011 star cast

Mars Needs Moms is a 3D computer-animated sci-fi film based on the book by Berkeley Breathed. It is set to be released on March 11, 2011 by Walt Disney Pictures and is directed by Simon Wells. The film stars both Seth Green (performance-capture) and newcomer Seth Dusky (voice) as the main character Milo, and is produced by Robert Zemeckis and his studio ImageMovers Digital.

Milo (Seth Green- voice)  is always being nagged by his mom (Joan Cusack – voice) to eat his broccoli, do his chores and when she sends him to bed with no TV one night, Milo gets into a big fight with her and tells her to her face he wished he didn’t have a mom. Ouch.

So when the Supervisor (Mindy Sterling – voice) has been monitoring the Earth to find good moms to abduct and come steal their memories and download them into their nanny bots, she sees her chance in grabbing Milo’s mom. Milo, a little while after their argument, feels bad and wants to go apologize to his mom. Good thing he did, because he hitched a ride on the space ship when they were taking his mom away.Through some crazy turn of events, Milo finds the only other human on Mars, a flashback to the 1980’s astronaut named Gribble (Dan Fogler – voice). Gribble is so happy to see another human that he pegs Milo as his new BFF. Milo has to convince Gribble to help Milo save his mom, and according to Gribble’s calculations, he has only 6 hours to do so, until she becomes Martian toast. Milo, Gribble and with the help of fellow girl psychedelic, flower child/ graffiti artist Martian Ki, (Elisabeth Harnois – voice) race against the sunrise, other crazy female Martians, and the odd, Rastafarian male Martians and the scary Supervisor to save Milo’s mom and get them back to Earth before it’s too late. Will they succeed in time or will Milo have to live together with Gribble in the trash heap forever?

I think all kids have a tendency when they get frustrated with their parents or even their siblings, to wish that they were not related. What Mars Needs moms does is weave a great story complete with amazing animation and special effects to bring a heartwarming message or two that will please the parents and resonate with the kids. If parents can only get the key message of the movie, then everyone comes out a winner (No Charlie Sheen is nowhere to be found in this film). In a rather unusual move, the filmmakers decided to use two actors to portray the central character – with Seth Green acting out the role and Seth Dursky providing Milo’s voice. Green does an excellent job of becoming this enthusiastic, plucky young boy, with the actor’s expressive performance mirrored by Dusky’s energetic voice work. Cusack and Tom Everett Scott are solid as Milo’s concerned parents, while Mindy Sterling turns in an impressively vicious performance as the film’s larger-than-life villain. And although Fogler is initially somewhat grating as Gribble, the actor manages to transform his lonely character into a figure worthy of the viewer’s sympathy.
Mars Needs Moms is hardly in the same league as Pixar or DreamWorks Animation, but then, it doesn’t really seem to be going for that kind of a feel. Instead, Wells and his team have crafted a fun, consistently entertaining adventure film that feels like a throwback to the summer movies of the 1980s – including The Goonies, Gremlins, and Back to the Future. And while the film is by no means perfect – it does feel a little long at times and Gribble’s lair is almost oppressively grungy – Mars Needs Moms is a solid computer-animated flick that should leave adults just as satisfied and entertained as kids.

Battle: Movie review pics images starcast storyline

Los Angeles (also known as Battle: LA and World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles) is a 2011 action science fiction film directed by Jonathan Liebesman, and starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Peña, Nzinga Blake, Ne-Yo, and Bridget Moynahan. The events of the film are inspired by The Battle of Los Angeles, a falsely suspected air raid of Los Angeles that took place during World War II.

It’s August 12th, 2011 and the world is at war. What NASA suspects to be incoming meteors, turns out to be an invading alien race – a hostel one. The enemy ships assume positions near major cities across the globe and send their units in to take out everyone in sight. Their only hope for survival lies in the armed forces. The film focuses on a particular platoon fighting the invaders in Los Angeles. Fresh out of training, 2nd Lt. William Martinez (Ramon Rodriguez) is appointed to lead a team of men at a moment’s notice. He’s joined by SSgt. Michael Nantz (Aaron Eckhart), a seasoned marine struggling to get past a mission gone wrong. The unit is assigned to rescue a group of civilians holed up in a police station in the middle of the mayhem. They've got three hours to complete the rescue and make it back to safety before an airstrike demolishes the area. Right off the bat, you’re reeled in by the action.

The first few minutes of the film give a comprehensive and compelling overview of the overwhelmingly hostile situation. From there, we cut to 24 hours before the attack. The platoon soldiers are going about their business; Cpl. Kevin Harris (Ne-Yo) is picking out flowers with his wife for their wedding, Cpl. Jason Lockett (Cory Hardrict) is visiting his brother’s grave and the whole gang enjoys some beer.
Regardless, the film keeps a nice pace as the action begins. The first street battle is quite compelling, particularly when Pfc. Shaun Lenihan (Noel Fisher), the youngest of the bunch, has a one-on-one with an invader. In fact, all of the fight scenes really maintain a great deal of energy and suspense, the problem is, there are just too many of them. Battle: Los Angeles is a war movie and nothing more. The platoon literally goes from one battle to the next from beginning to end. A man with a well-refined character, throughout the film Nantz switches between insightful male patriarch figure and heroic action-oriented leader; he is a stoic yet sensitive Marine. Unfortunately, he has a bad reputation for losing soldiers under his command and placing his own survival as the most important objective. Can Nantz win the support of his men and simultaneously win the battle against this unknown threat?

The enemy in Battle: Los Angeles is an unfamiliar force that appears both organic and robotic, rooted in a fresh science-fiction-based design. The mystery that surrounds its origin is left in the shadows, yet with nothing lost in the cinematic process.

The movie’s focus on the lone squadron of warriors as they struggle to rescue civilians, escape from West L.A., and defeat their newfound foes is captivating all the way to the end.

Game : Movie review pics images star cast

GAME releases at a time when a different game, of bat and ball is at its peak. The Cricket World Cup mania has gripped the entire country, with India beating Pakistan for a clash against Sri Lanka in the finals. The movie GAME is jointly produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Shidwani. The movie is directed by Abhinay Deo. The famous trio of Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy are in the charge of creating the music for the songs. None other than, Javed Akhtar have taken up the responsibility of penning the lyrics for the songs of the movie. The star cast of the movie is pretty interesting and includes few of the biggest and most talented names of Bollywood. The ex Miss IndiaSarah Jane Dias, Jimmy Shergill, Boman Irani, Shahana Goswami, Soniya Jehan, Abhishek Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, Gauhar Khan and Sikander Kher are part of the acting members of the flick.
The movie belongs to action and murder mystery genre. As far as the trailers are concerned, the movie seems to be sleek and cool.

Anyway, leaving the excitement of Cricket aside, let's talk about Game here. It's about four troubled individuals from different parts of the world - casino owner Neil Menon (Abhishek Bachchan), politician OP Ramsay (Boman Irani), actor Vikram Kapoor (Jimmy Shergill) and journalist Tisha Khanna (Shahana Goswami). All of them receive personalised handwritten invitations by billionaire Kabir Malhotra (Aupam Kher), offering them a helping hand if they arrive at his private island of Samos in Greece. Getting easily convinced and without wasting much time, all of them reach the exotic island, only to find out, they have been tricked. It turns out; they were all responsible in some way or the other, for the death of Kabir's daughter Maya (Sarah Jane Dias), three years back. Before Kabir can avenge the death of his daughter, he is found dead, in what looks like a suicide. Detective Sia Agnihotri (Kangna Ranaut) feels otherwise and interrogates the four visitors, holding them murder suspects.

F.A.L.T.U (meaning: Fakirchand and Lakirchand Trust University) is an Indian comedy film directed by Remo D'Souza and produced by Vashu Bhagnani under the banner Puja Entertainment (India) Ltd. It is a remake of the 2006 comedy, Accepted.
It stars Jackky Bhagnani, Puja Gupta, Riteish Deshmukh and Arshad Warsi. Many stars likeBoman Irani, Akbar Khan, Mithun Chakraborty, Angad Bedi and Chandan-Roy Sanyal appear in pivotal roles.

Like a headline is to a newspaper report, a title is to a film. You all will agree that F.A.L.T.U. is a very attractive title. It's a different thing whether you like it or not. But it surely catches your attention. Also, the song Char baj gaye lekin party abhi baki hai from the film has become a sensation, particularly among the youth.

Following the path of films like Taare Zameen Par and 3 Idiots, F.A.L.T.U. takes on the education system. Being inspired from the 2006 film Accepted, it's about four college friends - Ritesh (Jackky Bahagnani), Pooja (Puja Gupta), Vishnu (Chandan Roy Sanyal) and Nanj (Angad Bedi), who just want to enjoy life. Ritesh even turns up late for his last exam as he was busy packing for his Goa trip. And when the results come out, Ritesh, Pooja and Nanj have just about managed to pass their exams, failing to get admission in any college. So, with the help of Vishnu, they start a fake institution named Fakirchand and Lakirchand Trust University or F.A.L.T.U. to bring a smile on their parents' faces. They create a website and give a newspaper advertisement of the institute so that it looks authentic. With the help of kindhearted Google Chand (Arshad Warsi) they even get a place in Panchgani and a young principal named Baaji Rao (Riteish Deshmukh) for the institute. Trouble arises when students actually turn up at F.A.L.T.U..

F.A.L.T.U. begins impressively with a fun animated title sequence. And it is followed by the characters' college life which makes you smile and reminds of your own college days. The narrative moves smoothly in the first half which is full of energy. Its post the interval, that the graph dips and the proceedings become humdrum for a while. Debutant director Remo D'Souza then charms you with his choreography skills with an amazing song in the climax which sums up the entire film beautifully. It's hard not to shed a tear or two during the song.

The film propagates that being excellent in studies in not the only thing. It's more important to study what you like. It also gives the tip to make your hobby your profession. It makes you realise the importance of people. These are the things which surely make you think.
Jigar and Sachin's music is excellent and goes well with the film. Char baj gaye lekin party abhi baki hai is undoubtedly the best track. Vijay Arora's cinematography is nice.

Jackky Bhagnani puts up a confident act. Debutante Puja Gupta is passable and needs to polish her acting skills. Arshad Warsi is hilarious. Riteish Deshmukh is good. Chandan Roy Sanyal impresses yet again after KAMINEY with a superb performance. Angad Bedi is okay in his debut film. Darshan Jariwala is fine. F.A.L.T.U. is a sincere attempt which asks the right questions about our education system. And yes, it's not at all F.A.L.T.U.

The Mechanic : movie review (2011) pics images star cast

The Mechanic is a 2011 American thriller film starring Jason Statham as the title character. The film, directed by Simon West, is a remake of the 1972 film of the same name that starred Charles Bronson. Statham stars as Arthur Bishop, a professional assassin who hunts down the murderers of his friend Harry (Donald Sutherland). Though Bishop works alone, he reluctantly lets Harry's son Steve (Ben Foster) accompany him in the hunt, training him as an assassin. It was released in the United States and Canada on January 28, 2011.

The cast of the film is:
  • Jason Statham as Arthur Bishop
  • Ben Foster as Steve McKenna
  • Donald Sutherland as Harry McKenna
  • Tony Goldwyn as Dean Sanderson
  • Jeff Chase as Burke
  • Mini Anden as Sarah
Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) is a mechanic, a professional assassin, one of the best. He's so good that when his organization hires him to take out his own mentor (Donald Sutherland), he goes about the job with his usual detachment and efficiency. But even hitmen have hearts and souls, and Bishop is no different. The closest thing he has to a relationship is a prostitute he visits on a regular basis, and he has begun to dream of escape. Instead he digs himself further in when he takes on Harry's son Steve (Ben Foster) as his apprentice, just so he can have someone to talk to.

Simon West's remake of the original Charles Bronson thriller is exactly what you might expect, exchanging introspection and suspense for amped up action sequences, giving up on existentialism for nihilism. On the other hand, taken in itself, it's not a bad modern action film, with at least an interest in characters, even if it doesn't know where to put that interest. Just on a purely action movie basis, when "The Mechanic" gets going it's not bad. West ("Con Air") is an old hand at this and knows how to put an action scene together. Bishop and Steve's escape from a high rise after a hit gone wrong is the highlight, fast paced and brutal. Unfortunately he's not as good at the suspense side of it, which a lot of the film is focused on, so much so that the big action finish is not the conclusion. It creates a schizophrenic film to say the least.

Steve is a troubled man, we're told. He's been bouncing around from job to job, not entirely sure what to do with himself. That is, until the first time he sees Bishop at work and realizes he can express his internal self-hatred outwards. He may be a burgeoning psychopath, creating a standard action movie dichotomy with Bishop. This would be all well and good if Steve didn't have a legitimate beef with Bishop, who did kill his father. While the film spends a decent and interesting amount of time teasing if Steve is going to find that out what he will do if he finds out, it's ultimate decision is so nihilistic it leaves a horrible taste in your mouth if you think about it for more than a few minutes.

Utt Patang : review

Utt Pataang is directed by Srikanth Velegaleti and produced by Aparna Joshi . This is a comedy starring Vinay Pathak, Mahie Gill , Saurabh Shukla. The Background music is by Sanjay Chowdhary. Utt Pataang is a high voltage comedy thriller involving these five characters and how their paths though varied from each other but get embroiled in a wild goose chase for the booty. Vinay Pathak in the double role plays the good and the bad guy at the same time.

The film is basically an account of happenings on one particular night. Ram (Vinay Pathak) is a 35-year-old from Mumbai who has just broken up with his girlfriend Sanjana (Mahie Gill). Nandu (Saurabh Shukla) is his private detective friend. While having dinner at a restaurant, Ram and Nandu meet Koyal (Mona Singh), who's heartbroken after being betrayed by her boyfriend. Nandu hooks up Ram with Koyal and sneaks away surreptitiously. While Ram and Koyal are having a good time, Sanjana visits Ram's house to pick her belongings. But she's flabbergasted to find her current boyfriend and gangster Lucky (Vinay, again) there. A series of events involving many phone calls, police, a huge sum of money and lots of chaos unfold post this.

Utt Pataang has an interesting and impressive narrative. Each character is introduced one by one and his or her involvement in the plot is explained. The story keeps getting into flashbacks, which play out into the present situation. What seems to be a regular love story at the outset turns out to be a mad comic thriller. The connect remains throughout, despite the difficult screenplay, which is commendable.

The style of narration which tells the story from each character’s point of view is ingenious. There are numerous twists which keep you engrossed. On the flipside, it drags a bit post the interval, only to come back strongly in the hilariously tumultuous climax.

  • Vipin Sharma as Tony

  • Yashpal Sharma as Bade

  • Prashant Narayanan as Chote

  • Yeh Saali Zindagi Its a quirky love story in the guise of a thriller. Its an obtuse take on how far they both the heroes go to get the women they love and how sometimes one screw-up can set everything right! Arun (Irrfan Khan) has to save Priti (Chitrangda Singh) the woman he loves, but for that he first has to save the man Priti loves- Shyam, the future son in law of a powerful Minister.

Meanwhile, time is running out for Kuldeep (Arunoday Singh), the young gangster who is on his last job as his wife is threatening to walk out on him completely, and he begins to suspect she is leaving him to go into the arms of another man.

The film rides a roller-coaster towards a shattering climax, where all the players have to fend for their lives and loves. The time that remains : review

The Time That Remains is a film written and directed by Elia Suleiman. The film stars Elia Suleiman, Saleh Bakri, Leila Mouammar, and Bilal Zidani.

The Time That Remains is the story of Mr. Suleiman’s mother and his father, Fuad, who talks a bit more than his son and smokes a lot more than he talks. We first meet Fuad in 1948, and he is as dashing and charismatic as a Hollywood idol of that era. Though his experience of the first Arab-Israeli war is by turns farcical, brutal and heartbreaking, he endures it all with stoical grace. In his son’s affectionate recollection Fuad’s life is a lesson in how dignity and humanity can survive dispossession and defeat.

The film itself is evidence that E S has taken his father’s example to heart. Though there is anger, even bitterness, in his portrayal of the humiliations suffered by Palestinians at the hands of Israelis, Mr. Suleiman traffics neither in hatred nor in the romanticism of lost causes. Instead he finds comedy in cruelty, and also the reverse.

The first act of “The Time That Remains” is more or less a war movie. Violence, betrayal and oppression make their way into Mr. Suleiman’s carefully composed frames, but his tone remains quiet and contemplative throughout. And Nazareth itself seems governed as much by clarity and calm as by chaos and argument.

The sunlight on the whitewashed stucco and pale stone walls etches an elegant geometry onto the streets and houses, and the dominant sound is often wind rustling the branches of olive trees.

Some of these carry the sting of satire, especially those that you suspect are close to the literal truth. A room full of Arab schoolgirls sings patriotic songs in Hebrew, for which they are given a prize by a visiting dignitary, while the young Elia is scolded for making anti-American comments in class. His trouble with the authorities will continue, but he and his parents also deal with more mundane matters, like the bad eyesight and worse cooking of Aunt Olga (Isabelle Ramadan) and the crackpot political theories of a drunken neighbor.

Through it all, time passes. Parents age, fashions change, and politics intrudes on daily life, with demoralizing but never entirely catastrophic results. “The Time That Remains,” which punctuates its story with carefully deployed incidental music, with lyrics in both Hebrew and Arabic, ends jarringly but not inaptly with a techno-remix of “Stayin’ Alive.” The song’s title encompasses the moral of this chronicle of mortality and survival, a thorny and intricate film that is also breathtakingly simple and honest
